Every Place You Set Your Foot, Prayer Walking Series: Day 8 - Follow

“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.”
Josh. 3:3-4

In the 1984 Karate Kid, Daniel and Mr. Miyagi come up from the beach to find a group of guys have stacked their beer bottles on the hood of their car. Mr. Miyagi politely asks them to remove them, but they refuse and challenge him to make them. Without another word he cuts the tops off the glass bottles with one karate chop.

Daniel’s fear turns to excitement as he exclaims, “How did you do that? How did you do that?”

Miyagi calmly answers, “Don’t know. First time.”

The Israelites didn’t know what they were doing either. And they were much less confident than Mr. Miyagi. God didn’t expect them to run blindly into enemy territory; He expected them to trust Him and follow His lead.

We don’t know what’s going to happen in the next moment either. This is our “first time” at life. Unlike Miyagi’s calm confidence, we often tremble when faced with the unknown, the unforeseen, and the bullies who appear on our way. That’s why I’m thankful we serve a God who already knows what’s going to happen in the future and which way we should go. He wants us to ask for directions and trust Him to lead us.

That’s why we need to look to Him for directions and do what He says. Not only will He tell us where to go, but what to do when we get there.

Will you trust Him to tell you who and what to pray for as you walk? If we go with listening ears, He will speak and give us His heart for our community. Then we can be assured we’re praying for His will to be done. What an amazing blessing that He wants to communicate with us! “He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth—the Lord God Almighty is his name” (Amos 4:13).

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
